5 Places for Cheap Cocktails in Glasgow

I have compiled a list of the top 5 places to go for mid-week drinks in the city centre, doing the hard work and research so you don't have to. Team player I know.

Slug and Lettuce - St Vincent Street

I truly believe there is not a student alive who hasn't been to Slug and Lettuce for drinks at some point in their academic career. A chain bar which opens late during the week (and opens early for those middle of the day uni breaks). Describing themselves as a cool & contemporary style bar with live music, space to charge your phone and more importantly, a decent wifi connection. There is not much else you could want out of a cocktail bar, however,  it gets better. 50% off cocktails, all day every day.  There is not much else I need to say, it ticks all the boxes for a place to visit if you have yet to try. The only issue with the 50% off offer is it applies if it is the same drink, so if you have an odd number of friends with you then its easier to order an extra drink to make an even number, a blessing or a curse? you decide.

The Spiritualist - Miller Street

A relatively new place that I have visited, however, I have been seeing the boomerangs on Instagram of the breaking the ice of the strawberry daiquiris Instagram for what feels like eternity. Of course, I had to visit just to get a boomerang like everyone one else in the world. Top tip is don't visit this place with a clumsy person as the drink will be everywhere. A cool bar with an elegant and sophisticated feel and isn't made up exclusively students, it is a nice break from some other busier bars in town and although the most pricey cocktails on this list, not completely ridiculous Saturday night town priced which I think is fair. The highlight of the experience was the strawberry cocktail which came in an ice ball in which you smashed to get to the drink. A different take on a basic drink and as far as I am aware is the only bar in Glasgow that does it, so would recommend going just for that. As well as that I would recommend the 'Mad Hatters Tea Party' £15.95 to share between two, a cool 'magic' colour changing cocktail served in a teapot. A good drink to share and obviously most importantly also makes a good Instagram story picture. A nice place to visit if you want a fancy but quiet bar with different than your average cocktails for reasonable money.

 TGI Friday's - Buchanan Street

It wouldn't be a cheap cocktail list without an honourable mention to TGI's. A safe, not very adventurous but is always a fail-safe go-to option when your group can't decide on where to go which frankly is more often than I would care to admit. Obviously, have a great food selection but nobody just goes for the food right? A common theme in this post is strawberry daiquiri drinks, the definition of your basic order, however, TGI's really do offer the best-frozen daiquiri which is served in the huge fish bowl style glass, at a mere £10 for the huge drink it is a bargain that can not be passed up. Some of there other drinks are good including the purple rain, long island ice tea and the more adventurous June Bug are good, but not quite as good as the oversized, sugary deliciousness that is a frozen strawberry daiquiri. A classic mid-week option for drinks with the added advantage of being in the centre of town and having the option for a food break for when the cocktail drinking gets too much.

Hard Rock Cafe - Buchanan Street

Another place that has to get a mention and at this point everyone in Glasgow should have been to at least once is Hard Rock Cafe, an iconic brand with a rock and roll theme, you can't go wrong with paying here a visit, even if it is just to collect the cocktail glass to add to the collection of ones from your holiday that you will never actually use. Slightly more on the pricey side but well-made and fun cocktails with plenty of variation. Usually, a fairly busy place but you can sit at the bar to get drinks before you are seated so no issues there however on a Friday and Saturday night it is particularly busy so i would recommend visiting midweek to have a quieter experience and less of a wait. Good drinks and good music, a nice place to go for an occasional treat.

St Judes - Bath Street

Last but by no means least is St Judes. A bar, kitchen and music venue this is one of my favourite places to go for drinks. Plenty of choice on the drinks menu with a small but well designed Instagram friendly venue. The star of the show for drinks has to go to the 'Candyshop Cocktails' It is worth visiting just for this. A choice of 12 different sweet related drinks it was hard to choose just one to get. Although not a completely original idea, unlike other bars, the sweet drinks are actually good cocktails and fair priced for what you get. A nice atmosphere and plenty of picture taking opportunities it is a good choice for a quiet bar to go to and also carters for larger groups of friends which sometimes for small venues is difficult. An all-around good place that is worth a visit if you are looking for something new to try.
